No Exit by Jean Paul Sartre

Square Peg Theater presents the famous existentialist drama "No Exit" by 20th century philosopher Jean Paul Sartre on the small stage at The Space, Istanbul's premier independent expat theater hall.
This scathing drama explores Sartre's rendition of hell for three ill-fitted characters as they find that the afterlife is not the fire and brimstone we have been lead to believe.

Oscar Wilde In San Francisco by Eric Wilcox

Picture
Turks and ex-patriots alike might be surprised to find the famous character in such an unconventional district, but Oscar Wilde will appear at an exclusive pocket theater (çep tiyatro) in Istanbul’s Tarlabaşı neighborhood. This original, sixty-minute, one-act solo play by writer Eric Wilcox promises drama, humor and historical interest for fans of Mr. Wilde.

You may know Oscar from his hilarious and delightful plays; The Importance of Being Earnest', Lady Windermere's Fan' the scandalous Salome, and his novel The Portrait of Dorian Gray, but his earlier, formative life had yet to be explored.  Oscar Wilde in San Francisco portrays a more 'earnest' side of the notorious ne'er-do-well as he saunters across America on a commercially successful ten-month lecture tour called 'The House Beautiful.'  American playwright Eric Wilcox, (The Hasheesh Eater, Divided We Fall) uses archival sources and an unusual style to create a captivating portrait of an emerging writer honing his wit for the works that we have all come to love.

“As a brash 26-year old, Wilde caused a sensation in 1882 San Francisco and you will be transported to that time in our play. Those who are familiar with the towering scandal of Wilde’s life and literary career will find the play an engaging back-story to his well-known works. It’s a hell of a ride, too. English actor Luke Webb and American fiddler Ian Thomas Ackerman will deliver.”

–Eric Wilcox

2nd Production Auditions

April 26th, Tuesday 7 - 11pm Papirus.
Walk down Istiklal and turn right at the Fish Market. Go to the end of Balık Pasaj and look across the street. Slightly off to the right is Papirus. We'll be on floor down from the Terrace.

Before the excitement dies down, before people go away for the summer, let's get the 2nd Show on the road!
I will be at Papirus on Tuesday evening from 7pm to 11pm. There will be open auditions for the second production.
Please have ready a short monologue to read and a good idea of when you'll be available to practice.
Not only actors needed! We also need assistants, writers, directors and musicians.

2nd Production (yet to be specified) will be similar to the first.
It will go on stage mid-to-end of June.

Things to take note of:

Most rehearsals will take place on the European side. (By most, I mean pretty much all of them.)

Rehearsals can go late. Especially closer to show day.

This is a volunteer situation. Any profit made after costs will be split equally. We're not in it for the money.

And even though we are amateurs, I run a tight ship. We do not blow off rehearsals. I understand schedule can change etc and things can come up, but if you think you can't commit don't waste your time or mine. ;)

First Production Success!

We recieved great reviews and many want to know when we will have our second one up...
We'll keep you posted.

Love & Other Nonsense
